ATLANTA – An Alpharetta woman instantly was rewarded with a half-million dollar prize after making a soda stop. Nancy Hitchcock, 63, played the Georgia Lottery instant game Jumbo Jumbo Bucks and won a $500,000 top prize. The lucky lottery winner won $1,000 playing Jumbo Jumbo Bucks a week prior to her latest lottery win. “I’m still in shock,” said Hitchcock, a medical transcriptionist. RaceTrac #0114, 915 McFarland Parkway in Alpharetta, sold the winning ticket. After purchasing a Coke and the ticket, she scratched it in her car while in the front of the store. The grandmother of four shared the news of her good fortune with the store clerk. “Everyone in the store was going berserk,” she recalled. With four adult children, Hitchcock intends to help her family and take a Disney vacation. “Everyone who wants to go,” she exclaimed. “We’re going to go to Disney.” Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
