Georgia Lottery Corporation. A public corporation created by law and responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Georgia Lottery. The GLC is not a state agency.
Lottery:
Any game of chance where the player pays for the opportunity to win a prize. The outcome of the game is determined solely by chance, with no skill involved.
Instant Game:
A lottery game offering pre-printed tickets with an opaque latex coating that players scratch off to reveal immediately whether a prize is won or not.
On-line Game:
Any game in which the player's number selection is entered into a computer terminal and immediately recorded at the Lottery's headquarters site. CASH 3, CASH 4, Fantasy 5, Win for Life, Mega Millions, and KENO! are on-line games.
Lotto:
A computerized lottery game in which the player selects five or six numbers from a specified field of numbers. Winners are determined by a drawing.
Quik Pik:
A feature of the Lottery's on-line terminal system that will randomly select a player's numbers for the Georgia Lottery's on-line games.
Play Symbols:
Dollar amounts, numbers or other symbols concealed beneath the latex coating on an instant lottery ticket. These determine whether a ticket is a winning ticket. If matching prize amounts appear on the ticket, the player wins that amount.
Free Ticket:
A prize that awards the winner another instant game ticket of equal value.
Entry Ticket:
A winning instant ticket sent to lottery headquarters to be entered into a preliminary grand prize drawing.
Grand Prize Drawing:
Drawing held to award large dollar prizes in instant games. The GLC's seven Georgia Millionaire Drawings are an example of these.
High-tier Prize:
Any prize amount of $600 or more requiring a claim form to be filed before payment. These can be claimed only at GLC headquarters, a district office or by mail.
Claim Form:
A form required to be completed by all players claiming prizes in excess of $600 or more. Claim forms gather information about the winner and are needed for reporting winnings to the federal government. They are available at GLC district and headquarters offices.
Retailer:
Any business that has completed the application process and is authorized by the GLC to sell Georgia Lottery tickets.
Board of Directors:
An independent, seven-member board, appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the State Senate, which oversees the operation of the GLC.
GVT:
Acronym for GTECH Validation Terminal, the machine used by some lottery retailers to validate winning instant tickets.
Prize Pool:
The total amount of prizes available to be won by players in a game. All Georgia Lottery games are designed to payout around 50 percent of game proceeds as winnings to players.
